Issue Committee Meetings

Chapter Energy Committee Meeting
Wed. July 7, 2010, 6:30 P.M.
Chapter Office, 10 Milk Street #632, Boston (use 294 Washington St. entrance)
Note: Please feel free to "brown bag."
Clean energy is key to controlling our environmental problems -- join us for a discussion to learn what difference you can make in the energy future of the Commonwealth. Follow your interest with us, be it wind power, solar power, geothermal power, or beyond. We will also raise the issue of coal burning and the steps we should take to decrease our dependence on this polluting energy source that now supplies us with most of our electricity. Share your thoughts on energy efficiency. Your participation and ideas matter! This is a free event. For more information contact Roxanne Eigenbrod Zak-- see contacts page for email address.

Chapter Political Committee
Next Meeting: TBD

The Chapter Political Committee endorses and supports environmental candidates in local, state, and national elections. This meeting would be great opportunity to see what the Political Committee does. We have openings on our committee and urgently need your help. Transportation Committee Meeting
Thursday, August 19, 7-9 p.m.
Chapter Office, 10 Milk Street #632, Boston
Following meeting: Thursday, October 21, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
The highways that are built to sustain our sprawling suburbs add to our pollution and energy problems, and increase our dependence on an auto-centric way of life which is unhealthy, anti-social, and unsustainable. The Big Dig has drained fiscal support away from maintaining the deteriorating highways that we already have and from expanding our public transit infrastructure, beyond a few ill-conceived projects like the "Silver Line" bus and the "Urban Ring" busway. Join us and help the Sierra Club encourage public transit and pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly neighborhoods. Contact John Kyper, Transportation Comt'e (617) 445-8662, jkyper@sierraclubmass.org

Hikes/Outings

Hike - Leader's Choice: Amherst or Pelham

Depending on the weather we'll hike on some of the trails on the Mt Holyoke Range or walk along old roads on the western side of Quabbin (more strenuous if it's not too hot, less strenuous if it is hot and humid). Dress for the weather with hiking boots and long pants tucked into socks to ward off ticks; bring lunch, water and anti-tick spray. Please contact Elisa Campbell 413 256-4247, elisa.campbell@gmail.com (preferred) about a week before the hike if you are interested.

Note: Carpooling Policy: In the interest of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel. LIABILITY WAIVER: In order to participate on one of the Sierra Club's outings, you will need to sign a liability waiver.
